Why use Fabric Graphic Printing?

The applications of Fabric Graphics has taken off internationally as the preferred signage solution, due to the combination of printing methods and technological developments. Leading Display Designers and Manufacturers are adapting to the advancement of printing technology. Today the accessibility in printing larger sizes, the change of customer practices, including environmental awareness and confidence has created this trend to utilise soft signage printing in creative ways.

What is the definition of fabric graphic printing?

Fabric Graphics is the use of textiles as a printing medium, the application is the combination of the type of fabric and technology needed to produce the end result.

What are the benefits of Fabric Graphic Printing?

Fabric Graphic applications allows for creative freedom and versatility to create a product that speaks the brand objectives and places paramount the customer experience. The versatile application of printed fabric means various different signage solutions are now a possibility – from portable displays to exhibition stands, TexFrameTM Fabric Displays and more.

What is Dye Sublimation Printing and Why is it the best for Fabric Graphics?

Dye Sublimation printing utilises water based ink and heat processes to directly dye the signage fabric. During the dye sublimation process solid dye particles are changed to gas by the heat and pressure. The gaseous particles are then bonded into the fabric. When the dye becomes solid again the colour becomes part of the fabric. Therefore Dye Sublimation printed fabric graphics is scratch resistant, water resistant, has limited crease issues and no unpleasant smell.

As compared to alternative printing styles such as solvent, eco solvent, UV or latex ink jet printing. These methods print colour that is laid on top of the pre-coated fabric surface with downside results where the printed design can be easily lifted from the fabric causing scratches and crease marks.

Dye Sublimation is by far the go-to method of printing on Fabric allowing the flexibility in fabric choice with the ability to print on any polyester fabric coated and uncoated with various thicknesses and construction.

The 2 Methods of Dye Sublimation Printing: Direct or Transfer

Direct Printing Method: is when the dye is directly printed on to the coated fabric, it endures a heat process that locks in the dye to the fibres of the fabric material. Often the heating equipment is integrated with the printer forming an aligned direct print to heat process. This not only speeds up the production process it also allows the dye to penetrate deeper through the fabric to create a strong image on the opposite side of the fabric. This method is ideal for printing flag, as a single sided print with a mirror image on the reverse side.

Transfer Printing Method: is when the dye is printed onto transfer paper first, the paper is then laid on top of the fabric – with both the fabric and paper entering the heat press sandwhiched together. During this process the dye is transferred into the fabric. The transfer method is able to print dye into coated and uncoated polyester fabric.
